Training Description

HIV infection can happen to women of any race, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation. Protect yourself. HIV could be a result of substance use disorders, or it could be the reason for it. With this subject comes trauma and and a wide range of other factors.
 
"Physical violence, sexual abuse and other forms of childhood and adult trauma are major factors fueling the epidemic of HIV/AIDS among American women. Scientists have known for years that traumatized women are at greater risk of becoming infected."
   
50 percent of all people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide are women
   
27 percent of all U.S. HIV/AIDS diagnoses today are in women
   
77 percent of all U.S. women with HIV/AIDS are black or Latina
   
No. 3 cause of death for U.S. Black women, age 30 to 44 is HIV/AIDS
   
30 percent of American women with HIV/AIDS suffer PTSD (five times national rate)
   
55.3 percent of American women with HIV/AIDS suffer intimate partner violence (more than twice the national rate)
 

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to: 

  1. Learn effective steps to help prevent HIV infection for you and your partner
  2. Learn way to practice safer sex and prevent the transmission of HIV
  3. Understand the prevalence of HIV in Wayne County

Suggested Participants:

Communiy members, case-managers, social-workers, and treatment professionals responsible for facilitation of treatment plans for persons receiving mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities.

The last day to pre-register is Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 4pm.

Continuing Education Information

5.0 Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training.  Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety.  You must have your license number when you check in.

  • Substance Use Professionals 5 non-specific CEC hours are approved by MCBAP for substance use professionals, such as Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADC).
  • Social Workers:  5.0 Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. 
  • Counselors: 5.0 Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. The VCE is a National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional: 5.0 training hours are approved for clinical trainings in the behavioral health field (QMHP)
  • Children's Mental Health Professional: 5.0 training hours are approved for clinical trainings in the behavioral health field (CMHP)
