1.    Identify critical considerations of a trauma informed approach to recovery.

3.    Identify seven recovery intervention processes.

SUMMARY: TLC’s Trauma Informed Recovery Interventions are directed by a psychological first aid (PFA) and trauma informed approach involving 20 critical considerations for assisting survivors in schools and agencies following trauma inducing incidents. There is a continuum of interventions that cover the first two days following the incident, the third through the fifth day, the second and third week, the fourth to eighth week and two months and beyond. Providing a variety of interventions over these timelines, acknowledges that not everyone needs or benefits from the same intervention, that choice is critical to safety and that immediate needs after a critical incident are different than needs in the days that follow. This presentation reviews in detail the critical considerations, timelines and actual interventions found to be most helpful to survivors.

SPEAKER: William Steele, MSW, PsyD is the Founder and Director of The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children, established in 1990. Dr. Steele has developed, published and produced numerous books, articles, trauma-specific intervention programs and resource materials. He has trained well over 40,000 professionals. After the Gulf War he was one of the first Americans selected by the Kuwait government to provide trauma intervention training for their newly formed mental health staff. When asked, he lets all know he is most proud of the hundreds of TLC professionals who have given countless hours of their time to research and field-test TLC programs and resource materials to insure they bring traumatized children relief from the terror of their experiences.
