Training Description

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule - Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardized assessment of social-communication, play/imaginative use of materials, and restricted and repetitive behaviors for individuals who have been referred because of possible autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  The ADOS-2 contains 5 assessment modules.  Each module offers standard activities designed to elicit behaviors that are directly relevant to the diagnosis of ASD at different developmental levels and chronological ages from 12 months to adult. It is essential that examiners using the ADOS-2 have a full understanding of all of the ADOS-2 module protocols and materials.  This 3-day course will support examiners who use the ADOS-2 gain a basic understanding of how to administer and score the ADOS-2, be aware of issues in the clinical application of ADOS-2 results, and use the ADOS-2 for operationalizing diagnostic criteria for ASD.

Learning Objectives

1. To develop familiarity with the ADOS 2: Modules 1 - 2 and the Toddler Module
2. To observe administration of a semi-structured standard observation.
3. To learn administration techniques and strategies.
4. To focus on specific definitions of individual ADOS 2 scoring items.
5. To learn ADOS 2 coding guidelines and practice coding a live and/or taped administrations.
6. To complete and understand ADOS 2 diagnostic algorithms.
7. Discuss how ADOS results are interpreted and reported.

Suggested Participants: Master's Level Children's Mental Health Professionals, Psychologists, and Providers of Diagnostic Evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorders for the Medicaid/MI-CHILD Population.

Registration Policy

Registration: Pre-registration with a SPECIAL CODE invited guests received via e-mail is required. Pre-registration is required to ensure attendance. Participants are welcome to try and attend the training as a walk-in (someone that did not pre-register), however, walk-ins will NOT be guaranteed seats or materials. Walk-ins will be asked to wait until the training begins in order to receive training materials and be seated to assure that there is enough room. 

IMPORTANT: Registered attendees must arrive no later than 10 minutes after the training begins. After this point, seats will be given to the walk-in attendees on first come first serve basis. 

The last day to pre-register is Thursday, July 30, 2015.

Continuing Education Information

Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. Participants must arrive on time and stay through the training to receive full Continuing Education Credits. Late arrival or early departures will result in the deduction of awarded credit and proof of attendance. 12.0 Continuing Education Credits are offered for this training.

QIDP: 12.0 QIDP hours are offered for this training. This course can be used toward the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) training requirement for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals. 

CMHP: 12.0 QIDP hours are offered for this training. This course can be used toward the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) training requirement for Children's Mental Health Professionals. 

TRAINING HOURS: 12.0 Training hours are offered for this training. This training will count toward the annual training hours required by most provider agencies
