Course Description: 

This training will provide participants with a brief overview of the Parent Management Training – Oregon model (PMTO). Based on decades of research, this evidence-based practice is based on the Social Interaction Learning (SIL) model. The tenets of this model rests on the importance of the parent/caregiver as the primary influence over their child’s behavior. It focuses on combining positive relationship building with teaching methods that are most effective for children’s growth and change. This training will consist of part verbal presentation with handouts, along with examples, resources, and active learning exercises woven into the training.

Course Objectives: 

• Provide brief overview of the PMTO model and how it relates to the Social Interaction Learning (SIL) model

• Present application of SIL theory to teaching a parenting tool • Micro-role-playing to practice skill

• Provide brief video of Parent Panel excerpt from a PMTO state conference, in order to see the positive effects from the parents’/caregivers’ perspectives.

• Share the free online “MI Parenting Resource,” available to all Michigan residents 18 y/o and above.

Agenda:

 9:00am-9:45am Provide brief overview of the PMTO model and how it relates to the Social Interaction Learning (SIL) model

9:45am-10:00am Provide brief video of Parent Panel excerpt from a PMTO state conference, in order to see the positive effects from the parents’/caregivers’ perspectives.

10:00am-10:30am- Present application of SIL theory to teaching a parenting tool and engage in a micro-role play to practice the skill. Presenter will share information on "MI Parenting Resource" and how it can benefit practitioners in their practice with parents.

2 MI-CEC - Michigan Social Work credits have been approved for this training.

2 MCBAP-  Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professional credits have been approved for this training.

2 CMHP - Child Mental Health Professional credits have been approved for this training.

2 QIDP - Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional credit have been approved for this training.
