Course Description:
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for children, adolescents, and young adults ages 10 to 24. In April 2025, MC3: Michigan Clinical Care & Consultation is expanding psychiatric consultation for children and adolescents to emergency settings. This presentation will discuss the psychiatric consultation service and ways to interface with Community Mental Health professionals.
Course Objectives:
1. Review past and present needs for psychiatric care of patients younger than 21 years old in emergency settings across the State of Michigan.
2. Identify barriers to providing behavioral care to children and adolescents who are experiencing a crisis before, during, and after the ED encounter.
3. Explain the scope of Michigan Clinical Care & Consultation (MC3) ED program. (comprehension)
4. Discover effective ways for CMH and MC3 to partner to provide behavioral care to children and adolescents who are in crisis.
5. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of Community Mental Health (CMH) and Emergency Department (ED) interdisciplinary team members with a focus on the role of CMH social workers and interface with MC3.
