Objectives

Identify personal and professional values relevant to professional role.
Define implicit and explicit bias
Describe how bias and values impact decision-making in a professional role and decision making.
 

Description

In the healthcare setting, implicit biases can and do impact perceptions, interactions, and clinical decision-making involving patients. Professionals who deliver healthcare services to individuals with different cultural and social identities are responsible for being knowledgeable about ways that their identities can impact their professional roles. This course will encourage participants to review and acknowledge their personal and professional values and beliefs and identify ways their bias may impact their daily professional decision-making. Ethical considerations will be introduced.

Continuing Education

  • SOCIAL WORKERS: 3 continuing education credits are approved for this training.
  • QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (QMHP): These event hours meet the MDHHS training requirement for QMHP staff.
  • CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (CMHP): These event hours meet the MDHHS training requirement for CMHP staff.
  • QUALIFIED INTELLECTUAL DISABILATY PROFESSIONALS (QIDP): These event hours meet the MDHHS training requirement for QIDP staff.
  • TRAINING HOURS: This event will count toward the annual training hours required by most provider agencies.

Registration Fees

If you work OUTSIDE of Wayne County there is a nominal $15.00 registration fee to attend this training. Please pay prior to your arrival by entering your credit card information when the registration process asks for it. You may also bring a company check or money order for the full amount with you to the registration table at the event as well. All checks/money orders can be made out to ‘DWIHN’. Receipts will be available upon request.
