Skills and Strategies for Challenging Situations

Course Objectives:

Identify early warning signs of escalation and common behavioral health triggers. Define human behavior in the social environment. Describe two strategies for intervening during a crisis. Identify two resources for support during a crisis.

Course Description:

This continuing education course equips professionals working with individuals with a severe and persistent mental illness and/or intellectual or developmental disorder with practical skills to recognize and respond to behavioral health needs. Participants will explore human behavior within the social environment to better understand the factors that contribute to escalation and crisis. The training will focus on identifying early warning signs and implementing effective, trauma-informed intervention strategies to promote safety and stability. Attendees will also learn how to access and utilize key resources to support individuals during and after a crisis.

12:00 pm: Introduction to Human Behavior

12:30 pm: Social Environment and the impact on behavior

1:30 pm: Trauma Informed Principles

2:30 pm:Trauma Informed Strategies

3:30 pm: Resources to support during and after a crisis

Registration Fees

If you work OUTSIDE of Wayne County there is a nominal $15.00 registration fee to attend this training. Please pay prior to your arrival by entering your credit card information when the registration process asks for it. You may also bring a company check or money order for the full amount with you to the registration table at the event as well. All checks/money orders can be made out to ‘DWIHN’. Receipts will be available upon request.
