This conference is brought to you with the intention of creating awareness to the prevalence of suicide as well as methods of prevention and the detection of suicide risk factors. How can we work together through a multidisciplinary approach to tackle this epidemic?

Hope is the belief that circumstances will get better. It's not a wish for things to get better -- it's the actual belief, the knowledge that things will get better, no matter how big or small.

Keynote Speaker Rafiah Maxie

Rafiah Maxie (she/her) is a Mother, Advocate, Licensed Clinical Social Worker for the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Founder of Soul Survivors of Chicago, NFP.

On May 27, 2020 her 19 year-old son completed suicide in her home.  She felt compelled to continue his legacy and share his story for others impacted by suicide and trauma in the African-American community.

Registration Policy

Pre-registration is required. Participants are welcome to attend the training as a walk-in (someone that did not pre-register), however, walk-ins will NOT be guaranteed seats or materials. Walk-ins will be asked to wait until the training begins in order to receive training materials and be seated to assure that there is enough room. Plan to pre-register to ensure your attendance.

Photo Consent: By joining us at this event, attendees consent to Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority's Detroit Wayne Connect photographing, videotaping and using your image and likeness.

The last day to pre-register is Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 4pm.

Continuing Education Information

Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training.  Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety.  You must have your license number when you check in.

  • Social Workers:  4 continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. 
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional: 4 training hours are approved for clinical trainings in the behavioral health field (QMHP)

If you work OUTSIDE of Wayne County there is a nominal $15.00 registration fee to attend this training. Please pay prior to your arrival by entering your credit card information when the registration process asks for it. You may also bring a company check or money order for the full amount with you to the registration table at the event as well. All checks/money orders can be made out to ‘DWIHN’. Receipts will be available upon request.


Substitutions are permitted at any time. No Shows will be billed at the same rate. Cancellations must be received in writing no later than 7 business days prior to the training to asmith1@dwihn.org in order to obtain a full refund. If cancellation is received less than 7 days prior to the training, no refund will be issued.
