Course Description:
Social media is the pinnacle of youth entertainment today. If you were to ask a youth today “what do you do in your free time”, some form of online activity will probably be on the list. Social media platforms quickly established presence across the world, allowing us access to see other people’s livelihoods unlike before! This workshop will dive into understanding the influence of social media on our cultures, mental health and our lifestyles and learn how can we assist our youth with finding that balance between the internet and the real world.
Course Objective:
The objectives of the workshop is to:
(a) help attendees who work with youth to understand the effects of social media on mental health, lifestyles, the pandemic and social justice movements and
(b) discuss solutions and tactics to combat negative social media interactions.
Timed Agenda:
1-hour presentation:
30 minutes activities (ice breaker, interactive activity)
30 minutes open discussion
Continuing Education Credits: Continuing Education Credits are offered for this training. Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for its entirety to receive credits. No partial credit is available. You must have your license number with you to check in.
Social Workers: 1.5 Continuing Education credits are approved for this training.
MCBAP: This training meets the MDHHS requirement for Michigan Certified Board of Addictions Professionals
CMHP: This training meets the MDHHS requirement for Children's Mental Health Professionals.
