Abstract

Presenter will provide information professionals need to better understand how to support their families on their caseloads who have children with suspected or confirmed autism spectrum diagnoses.
Topic areas will include: the applied behavior analysis (ABA) benefit criteria eligibility process, the applied behavior analysis (ABA) benefit covered services, supporting parents in decisions about evaluation and treatment, working with the autism services provider system, the requirements of Clinically Responsible Service Providers (CRSP).

Attendees will learn:
1. What Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is?
2. What the Medicaid ASD ABA Benefit is?
3. What the eligibility criteria for the Medicaid ASD ABA Benefit is?
4. How to assist a families in accessing the ASD Benefit and how to support families receiving ABA services.
5. The roles & responsibilities of the Clinically Responsible Service Providers (CRSP) staff is related to the Medicaid ASD ABA Benefit.

Supports Coordinators, Case Managers, Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Therapists, Infant Mental Health Staff, Clinically Responsible Service Providers (CRSP), Home-based Therapists, Behaviorists

a. Autism Overview (1 hour) - 9-10am

b. ABA Overview (1 hour)  - 10-11am

c. ASD Family Support (1 hours) - 11am- 12pm

LUNCH - 12-1pm

d. ASD Benefit Overview (2 hour) - 1pm - 3pm

e. ASD Benefit Requirements (1 hours) - 3pm-4pm

 

Presenter: Nicole Dwyer, MALPC

Nicole Dwyer, MA, LPC has a master's degree in community and school counseling from Oakland University and a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Child Development from Central Michigan University. Nicole has published research in the Journal of Mental Health Aspects of Developmental Disabilities on Parental Bonding, Attachment and Stress in Families with Children with Developmental Disabilities.

The Autism Benefit management is led by Nicole Dwyer, ASD Benefit Specialist. Nicole possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge with over 10 years in the areas of Medicaid ASD Benefit Management, utilization management, quality management, access & engagement, children's services, and developmental disabilities programming. She is very passionate about her work, and has gone above and beyond to build a collaborative ASD provider network and ensure timely access to evidence-based ASD Benefit Services for individuals with Autism.

Nicole has been integral in the roll-out of the restructure and expansion of the Medicaid ASD Benefit in Wayne County and continues to strategically grow and develop the benefit to meet the needs of the families served.

Refund/Cancellation Policy: Cancellation/Refund Policy: Substitutions are permitted at any time. No shows will be billed at the full training rate. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 7 business days prior to training to asmith1@dwmha.com to obtain a full refund. If cancellation is received less than 7 business days prior to training then no refund will be given.
