Course Description:

This training offers an in-depth review of the Parent Support Partner (PSP) role and services designed to empower parents and caregivers of youth with serious emotional disturbances and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. Participants will explore how PSPs utilize lived experience to support families navigating complex mental health systems, promoting family voice and engagement, and improving outcomes for youth involved with public mental health services. The course highlights distinct functions that PSPs fulfill within multidisciplinary treatment teams.

 

Course Objectives:

  1. Define the role and purpose of Parent Support Partners within mental health treatment teams.
  1. Identify the core functions and boundaries of the PSP role, distinguishing it from related professions and services.
  1. Recognize the benefits of Parent Support Partner support for caregivers, including increased self-efficacy, reduced isolation, and improved well-being.
  1. Apply family-driven and youth-guided principles to support parent empowerment, advocacy, and system navigation.
  1. Demonstrate effective goal setting by collaborating with families to develop individualized, strengths-based treatment goals that reflect their unique needs and priorities.
  1. Articulate how PSP services contribute to improved outcomes for youth with serious emotional and developmental needs.

 

Continuing Education Credits:

-SOCIAL WORK(MI-CEC): These event hours meet the MDCH training requirement for MI-CEC staff: 1 Hour

-CERTIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL(CMHP): These event hours meet the MDCH training requirement for CMHP        staff = 1 hour.

-MICHIGAN CERTIFICATION BOARD FOR ADDICTION PROFESSIONALS (MCBAP): These event hours meet the MDCH     training requirement for MCBAP staff = 1 hour.

-QUALIFIED INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES PROFESSIONAL (QIDP): These event hours meet the MDCH training requirement for QIDP staff = 1 hour.

-Qualified Behavioral Health Professional (QBHP): These event hours meet the MDCH training requirement for QBHP staff =   1 hour.
